Chapter 7: Hidden figures

This is not supposed to happen, not with her… If this continues it will surely end in chaos. I walked in circles in my office for the past 48 hours. Trying to cool my head ever since the gathering. After they left it didn’t took me long to calm everyone down. Except for the warm-ones, they became restless and  some of them uncontrollable which I had to eliminate two of them. Anyway it set a good example for the rest. But things will be different from now on, I can feel it. They have tasted a fraction of her scent. It will take a while for everyone to forget.

Because they were ready, to hunt I saw it in their eyes.  Everyone knows the Areandria bloodline is precious. One drop of their blood extends the lifeline for centuries, let alone the tremendous power it comes with. That is why they cover up their skin to not tempt others with their perfume, not everyone is able to resist.

A tall slender man came into the office and gave a little bow.

“My Lord, your guests have arrived.” he said.

His name was Adrian. His family served this castle for decades, a loyal friend and servant. My only companion in this large castle.

“Thank you Adrian, guide them to the conference room, I will be there in a moment.”

I went inside my bedroom and changed. Her perfume still lingered on my clothing. For me its the most beautiful scent ever, but it doesn’t drive me crazy like everyone else. It’s  different, we are creatures of equal but also opposite power. Surely her blood would kill me.

I walked into the conference room and saw Lord Arvian and Lord Khan standing up out of respect to greet me with a bow.

“Gentleman please sit down.”

“Lord Rahziel, we came as soon as possible. Please excuse us if we have let you wait too long” Said Lord Arvien while exchanging eye contact with lord Khan.

“We have something urgent to report” Said Lord Khan.

I could sense something was off. This wasn’t how this conversation  supposed to begin.

“I am listening” I said.

“My Lord, you gave me an order to take care of the matters with the levels. But it seems that they have grown in numbers. For the last month especially and aren’t decreasing whatever we do.” Said Lord Arvien anxiously.

“It seems that they are under orders of someone. Someone who summons them and turn them against us.” Said Lord Khan. He was twitching his fingers. I could tell he was nervous and afraid.

“Do you know who?” I asked, I already had my assumptions but maybe I’m wrong. I hope I am.

“My Lord, we aren’t certain. Especially because this person died centuries ago, but witnesses say they saw himsay. Its…” Said Lord Arvien trembling.

“We think it’s Xian of Velor.” Said Lord Khan.

I wasn’t wrong. If it is really him, it will change the course of everything. Someone must have resurrect the bastard, someone with ancient transcriptions. But such transcriptions are only in possession of the Counsel’s, how did they manage to get their hands on them.  I will have to discuss this with the Counsels as soon as possible. I watched him die 450 years ago by the Echluëden. And I will see him die again! No mistakes this time.

Chapter 6: Weathering

“I am as the Echluëden, created to keep the balance in the dimensions. The Echluëden is responsible for the balance of the good against evil, my purpose is to balance evil against the good. Neither of them is supposed to win over the other, otherwise the dimensions will fall into ruin. Within every dimension there are always ones that fight against evil and ones that fight against everything that is good. Always in a constant war with each other until the end of time. I suppose you are aware of your responsibilities as the heir. Sometimes it comes to a point where they balance each other out, and that is when one of us have to step in. If its source is from the dark creatures I handle it and if creatures of light disturb the balance The Echluëden steps in. We are the last resort when it comes to these matters, only if the balance doesn’t even out internally.” Said Lord Rahziel as we sat down on a bench in the castle gardens.

We were surrounded by millions of flowers and plants from every sort and colour. The moon lightened up our surroundings and I felt ecstatic. In my world where I lived we were surrounded by water and trees, unlike the castle of Lord Rahziel which was surrounded by forests and gardens full of things I wasn’t familiar with.

“How come I haven’t seen you at the annual Oreka meetings with the Councils?” I asked, we practically had the same job. The Councils have the last word and say when we are allowed to intervene. It seemed natural for him to be there.

He gave away a faint smile as if he founded it a funny thing to ask.

“In the end the Echluëden will always have to report to the Councils where as I don’t. I did in the beginning but I am tired of seeing their wrinkly faces every single time. And I think the feeling is mutual.” he said.

I looked down at my knees. My dress didn’t look wine red anymore but had a more dark purple colour because of the moonlight. I was a little disappointed to hear he chose not to come to the annual Oreka meetings. We have them every week so it would’ve been nice to see him once in a while.

“But if you want me to I’ll be there?” He touched my chin and I was forced to look right in his eyes. Dark blue eyes. My skin burned where he touched me.

“I would like that.” and gave a faint smile, I felt blood rushing into my cheeks. But can’t move my face because his hand is still under my chin forcing me to look up. He started laughing, and that was the first time a heard him laugh.

“You are cute Lady Aelliana” said Lord Rahziel while he pulled his hand away from my chin.

Suddenly I heard a voice in my head “Aelliana! Where are you?!”.

I was pulled back to reality. Mother! I totally forgot! She must be looking for me.

“Aelliana answer right now! I can’t sense you anywhere!” She was definitely panicking, I could hear her voice tremble as she tried to contact me trough ara.

“Mother don’t worry I am fine, I was taking a walk in the gardens.  I will return to the main hall.” I answered.

Just as my vision became clear again after using ara. I saw lord Rahziel standing before me with a serious face.

“We should return My Lady, Lady Luciana must be worried.” he said.

How did he know?

“Your eyes” he said.

“They turn into another colour when you use your power. You look a little bit surprised my Lady.”  He said playfully.

I didn’t know that, I didn’t know that my eyes changed colour?! Why hasn’t anyone ever told me that?! I stood up and we started walking back to the castle. He wasn’t talking, just staring in front of him as we walked back. Suddenly I felt that something prevented me from walking forward. I looked behind me and saw that my dress was stuck in the thorns of a large rose bush. I tried to pull my dress out of the thorns but wouldn’t come loose. I gave it another pull and I heard a ripping sound. No, don’t tell me…A large rip in my dress leaving my leg bare right up to my left knee. Why did this had to happen now?! Lord Rahziel was walking ahead and didn’t notice me staying behind. This is not good, mother I need help!

“Lady Aelliana, is there something wrong. My apologies, it is unlike me to space out. Why are you … oh!” He noticed the large split in my dress leaving my leg open.

“You shouldn’t show…, I hope your scent hasn’t reached the main hall. Come with me, I have to get you out of here!” He suddenly pulled my arm and lifted me up like I was a feather. I was too close, it made my heart race like crazy. I couldn’t even see my surroundings as he ran, he was so fast. When he put me down I found myself in one of the rooms in the castle. He rapidly moved to the other side of the room and pulled a large closet open full of dresses. He pulled one out and swiftly gave me one of them.

“Please undress and wear this, quickly!” I didn’t know what I had to feel right know, panic or embarrassment.

“I can’t undress when you are watching!”

“Right, I won’t look.” He walked to the other side of the room to the door. He put his hand on the door and looked down. I managed to unbutton a couple of the buttons on the back of my dress and remembered why Maya helped me get in this dress. I can’t reach the other buttons on the back of my neck. Why did this dress had to have a zillion little buttons, I was stuck! As I tried to reach the buttons my hair came loose and fell on my shoulders. I lost my balance and fell on the ground. Lord Rahziel turned around and saw him staring at me confused, while I was laying on the ground.

“My Lady, why aren’t you dressed yet? You don’t have much time. Soon your scent will spread into every corner of this castle.” Said Lord Rahziel.

“I can’t reach the buttons…” I said, almost whispering.

“stand up my Lady” He took my hand and helped me back on my feet. I turned around and felt his hand on my hair. He put my hair gently over my shoulders and unbuttoned the last buttons on the back of my neck. Leaving my back bare.

“These marks…” He said while touching my back with the tip of his fingers. I flinched, not because I didn’t like it. But because it surprised me. His touch.

He quickly turned around and walked out of the room. I guess he didn’t like them, my marks. Every Echluëden was born with different marks on her body, mother had them on her right leg. I had them on my back, which was unusual according to mother. I quickly put on the dress and walked to the door. I heard voices, it was mother’s!

“Lord Rahziel, I don’t need your explanation. We are leaving! You should go back and keep your guests under control. Some of them noticed it, her perfume. They will become restless.”

“I will be on my way, my apologies for the inconvenience Lady Luciana.” And heard him walk away from the door.

I opened the door and saw mother and Ira glaring at me with a frown on their faces.

“Ira, will you open the portal!” said mother.

Just when I walked trough the portal I thought I heard someone calling my name.

Chapter 4: Perfume

As we entered the castle I couldn’t help but notice a different scent. It was the most beautiful scent you could imagine, it pulled me in an ocean of music. Electrifying my whole existence.

“My Lady are you alright?”

I snapped out of it immediately as Isa’s voice sharpened my senses. What was that?  I think it was calling me.

“Don’t lose your focus.” said mother while she was walking ahead with a head held high. Everyone was watching her, and then their gazes turned to me.

“She is the heir, wasn’t the heir supposed to come on her own?”

“What is the Echluëden doing here? Is there a problem?!”

“Are they challenging The Jahangir?” Whispered someone to the veiled women next to him.- I recognized that language, it was Puriaen. They’re referring to the pure blood as the ruler of the worlds?! Hearing that I actually started to get really nervous, I was supposed to come alone and was glad I dragged mother into this too.

“Don’t let them sense your uneasiness. It will be alright!” A sudden voice reached my ears. It was mother, reaching out to me by Ara. She is right, I have to hold my head high. I am the heir of the Echluëden, I have to let them know to not question me.

Everyone was present, every created species that held power in all the dimensions. Long-lived creatures staring at me and judging me from head to toe. Now I understand why this gathering was so important, it was a chance to give a good and remembered first impression of myself. But now everyone was afraid, of my mother. Because she wasn’t supposed to be here.

Suddenly a huge door opened on the second floor, making a tremendous sound that echoed into the main hall where everyone was standing. Everyone looked up at where the sound was coming from.

“Lady Luciana, what a lovely surprise.” A deep but calm voice was resonating everywhere. Suddenly I sensed a shadow beside me, I turned my head to the left but it was gone. A chill ran down my spine, what was happening?!

Mother turned around and looked at the entrance from where we walked trough a while ago. A  tall broad-shouldered man, with a mop of dark almost black hair and heavy defined brows that were offset by a boyish grin stared at me. It was as if he was piercing trough my very own soul. A pair of eyes as the color of the depths of the ocean drew me in. That scent, I remembered this scent.

Everyone stepped aside as he walked towards our direction. Every step he took echoed in the hall, no one dared to make a sound. He didn’t lose his eye contact as he walked closer. Just a couple of steps away from us, he turned to mother. I felt blood running trough me as he walked closer. There was something wrong, definitely something wrong!

He stopped half a step from me and I looked up at him, how is this guy millions of years old?! He, he doesn’t even look old or to say ancient.

“Lord Rahziel, I apologize for the uninvited visit.”

“Don’t be, we have something to discus anyway. May I invite you for a drink?”

Mother gave a nod of approval. She took a step forward and I noticed that Isa wasn’t moving. I hesitated for a second.

“Aelliana, follow me.” Said mother to me by Ara. I followed mother but couldn’t stop staring at this tall figure walking ahead of us. His every step was so elegant and charismatic.

I couldn’t help but notice that his hair had slight waves in it. What was it that made me so infuriated with this person.

“Please, make yourselves comfortable.” said Lord Rahziel as he poured a glass for my mother. His every move was fast and charming.

“I suppose your preference hasn’t changed Lady Luciana.”

Mother nodded with a faint smile as she picked up her glass.

“What can I offer you my Lady? I suppose we haven’t had a proper introduction yet, Rahziel is the name.” Those eyes, staring into mine made me going ecstatic again. I had to keep my focus!

“Aelliana, my name is Aelliana. Its a pleasure to meet you.”

“The pleasure is all mine Lady Aelliana.” He gave a dreamy smile, and for an instance I smelled that beautiful perfume again.

He sat down right in front of my mother and I. He crossed his legs while his arms rested on the sides of a large armchair.

“This is a first! Both the Echluëden and her heir visiting my castle at the same time.”

“Lord Rahziel, I suppose you already know the reason of my visit.” Said mother with a sharp and clear voice.

“Yes, my Lady. I am already aware of the issues that has been caused by the warm-ones. I already have send notice to their Lord to resolve it.”

“The Councils have informed me to warn you. If this gets more out of hand I will have to step in.”- She paused for an instance. “Lord Rahziel, and no one wants it to come to that?” Mother looked at Lord Rahziel with eyes I never had seen before. It was a fierce and dominant look, she looked fearless.

“No need to be worried, disturbances like that always happen once in a while. But it resolves its self eventually. If it gets out of hand I will step in and make an end to it personally.”

“The century before a war erupted between the cold and warm-ones and you let it destroy an entire dimension. Don’t let it repeat again.” Said mother.

“I am not responsible for the wars that happen. It was the previous Echluëden’s job to maintain the balance, and she failed to do so.”

“Don’t you dare bring my mother into this. If you did interfered on time it wouldn’t had come to that, and that was YOUR responsibility Lord Rahziel!” Said mother while lifting her voice.

“Now now, no need to keep grudges. I won’t let it repeat again, this time its a different matter. An internal issue, Lord Arvien should be able to resolve it on his own.” Said Lord Rahziel calmly.

“I certainly hope so.” Said mother.

Chapter 3: Equilibrium

I couldn’t move, startled with wide eyes I tried to collect my thoughts. Now I understood why mother was so anxious of going there. Now I understood why I shouldn’t be that calm about this either. That person’s power was equal to ours, he was created that way. To maintain the balance as it is.

I had so many questions, and I had the right to know. Why did mother not tell me anything about this!

“Aelliana, calm down.” Maya put a hand on my shoulder.

” It’s time.”

I looked up at Maya who was already standing before me. I stood up from the floor. Maya gave me a long floor length coat and a purse. I looked up at her.

“Why would I need a purse? If I needed something I could do it by Ara.” – Ara is a kind of telepathy, we could call upon someone we needed. But not everyone of our kind possesses such skill or was skilled enough to learn it. You either have it or not. Some could even speak trough Ara. Maya and I were skilled enough to do that, but it needed a lot of energy. Mother was powerful enough to communicate by Ara all the time.

“You’re right, I suppose you don’t need it.”

We walked down the hallway into the main hall. Mother was already waiting together with Isa, Maya’s mother. Isa was a tall strong women, she always had a focused expression on her face. She thought me martial arts and how to wield a sword for if  I ever needed to. She also became the head commander of the Vestige armies, after what happened to father. In short she’s mother’s right hand.

“Lady Aelliana we will leave shortly. You will leave with me, Lady Luciana will be waiting there for us.”

I turned to look at mother, she was wearing a white gold dress with beautiful sparkly sequences. The front parts of her hair was tied up at the back and on her neck a small yet elegant necklace with the emblem of our bloodline caught my eye. It hanged on a thin gold necklace, the symbol of the Echluëden. That same symbol every heir is born with on her body.

“I’m faster and Isa will lead you because you don’t know the way.” She looked at me with a calm and gentle look in her eyes. Like she was telling me that it’ll be alright.

Isa pulled out her hand and created a portal. Mother smiled at me right before she entered hers and disappeared.

To create a portal you had to know exactly where you were going and in which dimension it resides. By going into the portal you enter some kind black hole, you divide two places in space and time. Its a portal to a different dimension. It can only be opened by one of our kind, only a Nâznean is able to summon that amount of energy from its core. The gift of opening portals is given by the Echluëden to whom she wants to. If wielded wrongly or not closed properly it can distort the balance of the world’s. Or worse our enemies can enter our dimension and destroy everything.

˜˜

I saw a faint light on the other side of the river where we stood. The air, the wind, the trees, the water, the grass, the birds, everything. The sounds of this world were different, felt different. A soothing light fell upon me when we walked out of the shadows, night had fallen. Moonlight touched my skin, and felt a different kind of energy flowing into my body. It was different then our moon. It was cold but had a calm feeling to it. I liked it.

To get to the castle we had to walk trough a forest, I heard different sounds. Some sort of faint melodies beaming from everywhere. Every life form had a sound, a sound of its soul. You could only hear it at night, because the sun touched the skin giving warmth and light but the moon touched the soul and the heart. Only mother and I were gifted to hear the inner voice. It was a gift and curse at the same time. Because not every soul was beautiful…

Also I want to inform that I added categories to my blog, so 1# Notebook will sometimes written in Dutch and The world of The Areandria will be always in English.

Chapter 2: Unexpected

“Suit your behavior and posture, don’t show your skin, lie if you must and don’t do something that attracts attention to you even more”.- That was all I had to keep in mind tonight. Besides all the names of  the thousands  guests that are going to be there as well. Names of one’s that lived too long in my opinion.

“Very well, you know who we are going to meet tonight?”-  I thought I heard a little tremble in her voice. She was nervous, I could tell. She doesn’t get like that with anything, its just weird. I knew that she went  to this gathering 500 years ago, what was it that made her so restless. When I just wanted to ask her the reason, I sensed someones presence at the door.

“Lady Luciana we are done preparing everything for Lady Aelliana.”

“Very well Maya, we are done here. Aelliana you should go and get dressed. We are leaving soon.”

I sighed, again. Yes I do that a lot, I hate getting dressed up in suffocating fancy dresses. I have to keep my skin hidden except for my face and hands so no one gets appealed by my scent. Yes my scent, because that is what drives this world’s creatures crazy. At least some of them.

I walked out of the room into the hallway, with very tall ceilings. One glass wall that looked upon the gardens and one white wall with doors. We walked by two doors and came in to the dressing room. The room was large with white dressoirs as large as the walls itself. Dresses, purses, shoes, you name it. This was the room that contained fashion of the centuries. I saw a dress on the counter in the middle of the room, everything was already chosen from stockings to shoes.

“I hope you like it my Lady”

“At least wipe that smile away from your face, you’re enjoying this too much.” – She knew very well that this was torture for me. She walked away giggling to the counter to take the dress.

“I can’t wear this, its too tight. Why is it so hard to get in a damn dress!” – Maya didn’t even button up the back of the dress and I already felt claustrophobic.

“It suits your figure quite well my Lady, you look beautiful. I knew this would suit you!” – When I turned around to look in the mirror, I saw Maya staring at me with big sparkly eyes. Of course she chose the dress! She wasn’t much older then me, in fact we were born in the same year a couple months apart. Her mother worked for my mother in the castle and she was always around as long as I could remember.

I looked up at my own reflection, a wine red dress that hugged my figure with a mermaid tail in the back. It felt a little velvety but it wasn’t, the fabric had a nice feeling to it. It complemented my honey blonde hair, I actually looked good. I sat down in front of the mirror.

“Maya will you come with me tonight?”

Maya answered with a faint voice while putting my hair in a bun.

“I can’t my Lady, but mother will be there. So don’t be concerned, if anything goes wrong…, well lets hope it doesn’t! Just stay with them and don’t do something stupid!”

Just when she was picking up some pins I took her hand.

“Tell me what you know, you’re hiding something from me.”

She looked surprised but relieved at the same time. Its not in her nature to keep secrets.

“Aelliana, I heard from mother that the host of the gathering is a Pureblood.”

“So? That isn’t anything odd or special. They are Purebloods, you know  what they fear the most, The Echluëden.”

Maya looked at me with a worried face. “Not just a Pureblood, the very first Pureblood AND Lord of the cold-ones and warm-ones. He was there when the very first Echluëden was chosen. Because he was created first.”

A chill ran down my spine. “The very first one! That would make him…”

“Yes Aelliana, that would make him millions of years old. As old as your bloodline.”

Chapter 1: Soar

A beautiful bird  flying with its large blue wings danced in the air, a beautiful silhouette that melted into the sun while it swirled higher and higher. I always looked up at creatures that could go as high as they wanted when they wanted. As for me I sat in this huge room, embellished with the most fancy and pretty things a human eye could see.

“You will have to attend whether you want or not young Lady!”

As I watched the creature budge in the sky, I envied her more and more. I wonder when I would taste the clouds like that.

“This is the most important gathering every 500 years, I attended and now its your turn!”

I sighed. “I don’t want to go mother, I hate gatherings like that. Same old people, same old conversations and same old glaring.”

I rolled with my eyes, cause that’s what children do when their parents try to make them do what they don’t want, right? With her usual frown on her face she went on with her usual nagging. That frown of hers, it wasn’t always there. I looked away at the window.

“You’ll go, and that’s the last of it! I don’t want to get in trouble with The Councils, you know they won’t leave it alone if you don’t go. I already have enough on my plate as it is, don’t make this any harder for me. Please, Aelliana?”

It was painful for me every time when mother said please, because I knew that she only did that when she was really stuck.

I folded my arms. “I’ll go if you go!”

And that was when my mother gave me the death stare, she opened her mouth to say something but backed out and decided to not say anything after all. Because she knew this was her only change to get me to that lousy party. As I maintained my posture, I gave away a faint smile as she walked out of the room.

 Prologue:  History of balance

The Echluëden

An ancient system of balance trough out time. As long as time existed so did The Echluëden. One chosen bloodline with the most heavy responsibility you can imagine. And with responsibility comes power and with power comes pain.
